If cause of the itching in your dog is allergy then you can use benadryl in your dog but it is advisable to get help from the vet because medicines can cause side effects. Benadryl is used to treat allergy because it is anti-histamine. Its dose is 0.5-2 mg per pound body weight for 2-3 times in day. Duration of treatment depends upon severity of the problem.
