The Black album was released in the year 1991. It was released on the 13th of August. It debuted at no 1 in both the United Kingdom and the United States charts. The album sold over 14 million copies in the United States alone. The album was certified 14X platinum in the United States, Platinum Austria, 2X Platinum in Switzerland and 2X Platinum in Holland, it was also certified gold in Poland and Platinum in Norway, Germany and Finland.

The Black Album was ranked on at 252 on the list of Rolling Stones 500 Greatest albums of all time lists.
