Cookies are in simple words memory holders, in the form of text, of information such as which date and what time did a user visit a certain website. Cookies are very functional devices in maintaining circumstances on the Web. The browser (Netscape and Internet Explorer) holds the cookies and gives it a value in the form of text. The information is then saved on to the hard disk in text files which can later on be deleted as well as can get expired on its own. Examples of such information can be new user sign up, online purchases etc.

The next time when the same website is visited, due to the cookies the browser downloads it much quicker than before thus saving user time. All the user's information such as user name are saved by the cookie and it basically helps the browser in identifying the user and keeping its temporary record. However, cookies do not fill up the hard disk as the browsers have a limit of the number of cookies that can be saved and later on if there has been a time limit set up, they will automatically expire. On the other hand, the browser also provides option of rejecting cookies, that is when a user does not like the idea of having his /her data saved on the hard disk

Cookie is not a program; it is actually a simple piece of text. Cookie cannot damage or access the hard disk. It is not the type of virus. the value of the cookie can be store to hard disk or in its memory.cookie cannot read your personal information from your hard disk but it only save the information of the site that you provide it.

Cookie is very powerful and useful tool.our webs servers are only know about the user. As the process is complete the web server forget the user but cookies remember the information of the user after the process is done.

Cookies are a very useful tool in maintaining condition on the Web. Unless something special is done, Web servers are only know about users when a transaction send or receive.after the  moment transaction is complete the server forgets about the user and makes no attempt to correlate subsequent transactions with previous exchanges.

There are some capabilities of cookies:
      • Information can be store with the help of cookies.
      • It saves the information about the user who opens the site.
      • If cookies used it can recall login name and login information.
      • We can use information for troubleshooting problem and for analyse.
      • We can communicate with user for providing different services

cookies contain the data placed in them either by the developer of the program or the admisnistrator himself for the end users.

1- Go to a page that is on a server that uses cookies.
2-The server sends a request for you to accept the cookie, which is sent before the page loads.
3- If yes, it is accepted by your browser, checked for length, expiration date, path and domain and then saved.
4- When you return, your browser checks the URL of the link against its cookie database.
5- If it has a cookie that matches the domain and path of the link it will send the cookie to the server along with the request for the page.

        Cookie Capabilities are as follows:-

1- Cookies can be used for a number of things
2- An online ordering system uses cookies that would remember what a person wants to buy.
        3- Site personalization.
4-If a person comes to your site but doesn't want to see any banners, a cookie can let them to select this as an option and from then on (until the cookie expires) they wouldn't see them.
5- Website tracking shows where people go when they access your site.

The cookie does not get deleted by itself. The web browser program that made the cookie deleted the cookie when the expiration date has come. The programmer of the web site has the ability to give the expiration date.

When you press the Remind me on this computer on a login through web, it goes to a cookie.
