Is ONSPEED A Good Way To Boost The Speed Of My Broadband Connection?

Answer Question

Yes, but up to a point. Like most things in life, there are limitations with this subscription based service.

ONSPEED is a software application that uses compression technology to speed up broadband by a factor of five. It costs £24.99 for a year on top of your monthly broadband provider subscription fee.

ONSPEED boosts connectivity speed by compressing web pages and email so they download and upload faster over your existing internet connection. But ONSPEED, though, does not support a number of important file types, and these include QuickTime, MP3, AVI, MPEG, exes or streaming media content. In addition, it will have no impact when working with secure https browsing, or if you wish to tunnel into a Virtual Private Network.

On the upside, however, ONSPEED compresses much of what you download, so potentially there could well be a saving for users on a capped broadband service who sometimes go over their bandwidth allowance.
