My 3 Year Old Son Wants To Be A Construction Crane For Halloween. How Do I Make That Costume?

I need help designing his costume. I need some help from some creative minds to help me get started! I am thinking of using a box with straps to go over his shoulders...but then what??? What could I use to make the crane???

Then take some stiff cardboard and cut out a couple long pieces and duct tape together at an angle like a crane. You could cover it all in duct tape to make it stronger and it would look metallic too. Put a little hard hat on him. I'm glad my kids want to be a penguin and a kitty cat this year--I can just use black sweats and modify a little!

Celticgirl has good idea.  A crane boom should be square but tapered into a smaller square at the top.  Maybe you could use a piece of 3 inch pvc pipe about 18" long (or shorter if 18" blocks his vision), and paint some gray triangular shapes on it to resemble a boom or just paint it gray.  A large ball and hook (painted wooden hook is safest) hanging off the boom make it clear it is a crane either way.  Drill a hole all the way through the pipe at the bottom and put a cloth belt thru the hole.  He can tie the belt around his waist which will help hold the weight of the "boom".  Glue a piece of cardboard across the bottom pipe opening and have folks put the treats in the top opening of the pipe boom.  Or not!!  I have no expertise on halloween costumes but I have been around cranes all my life  When i was a boy, I would have made my crane boom with erector set parts, but they are probably extinct.  Safety and ability to collect treats are most important items.

Haven't got a clue! But that reminded me of my son when he was around 6 or 7.....(He's 29 now).....He wanted to be  a BOX........So he wore a BOX......A Big one! We tried to talk him into something else..........He really, really liked this box we had........so we let him go as this 'box'.......Later, as we're all trick-or-treating, he took it off........realizing How Hard it was to Walk in that Thing! He was SO Grumpy the rest of that night!!! Ha!.......had to share that story......cyndi
