From external appearances, it seems like Holland is a very liberal country. It has tolerated drug sales, prostitution and euthanasia for many years and has no plans to curtail these activities these soon.
But underneath the surface, I believe lies the real truth that the Dutch are not actually liberal at all.
The Netherlands (the real name for Holland, Holland is just a small portion of the Netherlands) is not as liberal as it seems. What reasons did it tolerate drug sales and prostitution? So that they could be taxed. This is an economic reason to appear liberal, but it actually brings in a good lot of tax every year.
Next, if we look at how long it takes motions to be passed through the Dutch first and second parliament, things get chewed back and forth for years, this is not the actions of liberals, it is a conservative checking back and forth before taking action.
