What Do You Know About Squash Rackets?

Answer Question

Rackets are very necessary thing to play Squash or all the games like this. The court has four walls with the rear part divided into two service courts each having a small (service box) downs the court by the side wall.

The server must have one foot in the box and serve that ball on to the front wall above the cut line (6 feet in singles) so that is comes back diagonally into the other service court. But it need not land direct or land at all but may strike the side wall or back wall or both and be volleyed by the receiver. The object of the game is to score points by striking the ball in such a way that the opponent is unable to return it or make a proper shot.

Every shot played in a rally must hit the front wall directly or via another wall and must be played on the volley or after one bounce. The service ball must always hit the front wall first. Service proceeds from the two boxes alternately. A game is 9 points but if 8-8 is reached the winner is the next to score 2 consecutive points.

Squash is basically an indoor game played with racquets and the sport was formerly called 'Squash racquets'. The name is derived from the 'squashable' soft ball that is used in the game. Squash is played by two or four players with standard rackets in a four-walled special court with a small and hollow ball made of soft rubber.

The 'standard' racket size and structure are governed by the specific rules of the game. Traditionally the rackets were made of laminated timber, with a small area that is strung with natural 'gut'. After a rule change that came into force in mid-1980, they are now made of composite materials or metals, with synthetic strings. Modern rackets have dimensions of 686 mm length and 215 mm width, with a strung area of 500 square centimetres. The weight permitted as per the rule is 255 grams, but most weigh between 110 and 200 grams.

The sport is much pursued today and has become more of a style statement. Almost all clubs around the world now have the facility in-house and members play the game to sweat out excessive fat and burn flab. Squash as a sport has come a long way and today, there are international tournaments played.
