How Long Did It Take To Construct All Of The Buildings At The San Diego Mission Site?
Answers
The construction of the entire Mission San Diego de Alcala site took about 43 years in all. The Mission San Diego de Alcala was founded on July 16 in the year 1769. It was the first of 21 missions to be established by Father Presidente Junipero Serra. It is now known as the first-ever church to be established in the state of California on the west coast of the United States of America.
On November 5, 1775, the mission was attacked by the indigenous peoples who were native to the area, who were opposed to the Spanish rule, and Father Luis Jayme was killed. Peace prevailed in the year 1797. In the year 1795, the construction of a system of aqueducts commenced. The purpose of constructing aqueducts in the area was to supply water to the fields and the area.
In the year 1774, the mission was moved to a location, which was an Indian area called Nipaguay, which was located at a distance of six miles inland. It was destroyed by earthquakes that struck the area in the early-1800. In the year 1812, the structures were rebuilt and buttress wings were added to strengthen the façade of the church.
