What Was The Battle Of Prestonpans?

    The Battle of Prestonpans took place on 21st September 1745, south-east of Edinburgh,
    between the Army of Prince Charles Edward Stuart and the Royal Troops of  the reigning monach King George II.
    The best known combatants were Prince Charles Edward stuart, Lord George Murray and Sir John Cope(immoralised in thr folk song Hey Johnny Cope)
    The army of the crown consisted of  2,300 men and 6 guns; Troops under Bonnie Prince Charlie 2,500 men.

    The crown forces were made up of  the following regiments; Dragoons, Gardiner's 13th and Hamilton's 14th , Guise's 6th), Lee's 44th, Murray's 46th and Lascelles 47th Foot.
    After the Battle and the defeat of the crown forces it is said that General Lord Mark Kerr met  John Cope at Berwick and informed him that he was the first general in British history to bring news of his own defeat. This
