    Catholic is from chrsitianity. Even if you are not practicing catholic of the Roman Catholic church, it will be included in the opening prayer in the Church of England, or here they call it the Anglican church. Not only does it refer to a specific religion it also refers to the teachings

      It means universal, or all-encompassing, but the most common reference is to the Roman Church.
