There are many causes of nail loss. I am excluding injury, bacterial and fungal infections.

    1. Nail loss can be due to side effects of some medicines and chemotherapy
    2. Some diseases like, thyroid diseases, lupus, Raynaud's phenomenon, chronic arthritis
    3. Aging
    4. Malnutrition
    5. Poor absorption of minerals and vitamins.
    6. Persistent exposure to chemicals, detergents, nail polish remover and alkali.
It will be good to see a dermatologist for proper diagnosis.

      Thank you for your reply.

I am not on any chemotherapy, but I was
diagnosed in my mid 30's after a Cat scan to have osteoarthritis, I am now
49yrs old, and the only medication I am on is pain killer & sleeping
tablets and Voltarol cream for my arthritis if it get too bad and I find it
too hard to move. I will not let it stop me, if I stop I would seize up.

But since you state that arthritis can be
a cause, and my knee joints have started to give me a lot of problems going
up & down stairs, by giving out on me. I will go to the doctor.

      I don't normally like to
bother the doctors about my arthritis; they give me give pain killers &
sleeping tables & Voltarol to help me sleep through the pain, which I get
      on repeat prescription.

As for the rest of your possibilities I don't think I have any of
them, nor do I have persistent exposure to chemicals, detergents, nail polish
      remover and alkali.
