If you right click on your mouse whilst on your desktop, you can get a number of options which allow you to arrange your icons in different ways.
You can arrange them by name, size and type etc, which will make it easier to locate certain icons and it will look neater.
If you don't want as many icons on your desktop then you can delete some and send them to the recycle bin.
Another way of tidying your icons would be to place them in folders on your desktop. Right click on you mouse, then click on 'New' to create a new folder. You could place an internet related items in one folder and any Microsoft items such as Word or Access into another folder.
This will make your desktop look neater and give easier access to your icons.
