The overall strategy of an organization defines not only the lower level strategies but also the processes and procedures to accomplish the goals outlined in the mission and vision. So in order to pursue the overall strategy, the organization will align its product development process with the strategy and will ensure that the processes are such that they would help in achieving the required results. E.g of the overall strategy of a company is focusing on innovation, it would make sure that its investments in R & D are enough to support the process of innovation in new product development. It will also ensure, through is processes that employees, especially those working in new product development are encouraged, motivated and appraised for their contributions to the process of innovative product development.
