    ICT (Information and communication technology) is basically the use of electronic communication, and the use of computer software.

    ICT is also known as IT (Information Technology), which covers the process of storing, creating, transmitting and retrieving data. The term ICT was introduced due to the use of electronic communication.

    Information technology is a subject available for students to study in colleges and they will usually learn how to create databases, study topics related to the World Wide Web, information security and much more. ICT is available at A level and will involve students creating their own information technology projects.

    IT professionals usually cover software design, computer networking, management information systems and much more.

    The term 'information technology' first came about  in the 1970s. ICT came about more recently.
