5 Things You Must Do While You Are in Akron
Akron is also known as the Rubber City of the world and before that was the original home of Quaker Oats. Built right on the southern edge of the Connecticut Western Reserve. Akron offers some wonderful places to visit for all the family. If you are planning on travelling to Akron then here are the top 5 things which you should do whilst your are there:
1. Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens
This impressive historic house museum did not get its name from a person or family. Stan Hywet (pronounced Hee-wit), means "Stone Quarry" in Olde English. At one time, this estate contained a sandstone quarry In 1912, F.A. Seiberling, co-founder of Goodyear built the house for his family. One of the most popular attractions is the peaceful walled English Garden.
2. Point Market
A real shopping experienced! Walk into this elegant market and take in the ambiance. You will see numerous clocks, displaying times of places around the world as you enter. A note on a table simply states, "Your husband called, he said you could have anything you want" – so have fun as there are nearly 5,000 bottles of wine, an impressive selection of international cheeses and jams and fresh pastries and breads all waiting to be placed in your basket. Indulge yourself
3. Denis Conley Gallery
If you enjoy the unique qualities of contemporary art, this is a gallery to visit. Paintings, prints, sculptures and etchings by such renowned artists as Gianni Celati, Marko Spalatin and Ian Adams can be found.
4. Mustard Seed Market and Café
The large planet hanging from the ceiling indicates that Mustard Seed Market and Cafe sells healthy, good-for-the-environment products. So enjoy morning coffee, a leisurely lunch, afternoon tea, dinner or just satisfy your sweet tooth with the mouth watering carrot cake or German chocolate brownies. Also try the live entertainment in the evening.
5. Akron Zoological Park
You can take a trip around the world by simply walking through the exhibits provided in the 25 acres of park. Bald eagles, Sumatran tigers, Humboldt penguins and red pandas are among the 400 different types of animals that reside here. Programs include a Senior Safari in June, a Pajama Party in July and a holiday Lights Celebration in December.
