Answer Question

There are lots of reasons but I guess the best reason was to find an easier way to get to China so they could trade with them. It was a long and dangerous trip to China and they had lots of goods that could not be had any other place.
One thing is for sure; he didn't do it to prove the world was round.  There was a fictional book that stated that Columbus was trying to prove that the world was round. That is a HUGE misnomer. Galileo discovered the world was round 400 years before Columbus sailed to America.

One reason was to prove that the Earth wasn't flat. He also wanted to get many goods from the West Indies and bring them back to Spain
