Which Lasts Longer, A Plasma TV Or An LCD TV?

I want to buy a new TV (high definition) but I want the type which will last the longest with the fewest problems. I am interested in a 40-42' size TV. Should I buy a plasma set or on LCD HDTV? Thanks.

Manufacturers of both claim a usable life of 50,000 to 60,000 hours. Plasma has problems with image burn-in (remember old crt computer monitors). To combat this, the picture is, sometimes, continuously shifted a pixel or so one way or another. In darker lighting plasma usually has a superior picture. In normal lighting the lcd might have an advantage.
In cost they have become comparable. Suggestion: Visit a dealer of both and judge based upon viewing. Also keep in mind where you will be watching TV. In a dark basement maybe plasma. In a well lit room maybe lcd.

Plasma technology is now in it's 10th generation, and burn-in is no longer an issue. Also, LCD require more power to produce an image, since the entire screen stays lit no matter how dark or bright the image, and plasma draws power as needed to light the diodes. LCD tends to be less expensive (especially at smaller sizes), but, in most cases, plasma specs out higher in terms of contrast ratio and side-angle viewing.
