Before giving any treatment of constipation, your puppy must be investigated for the underlying cause. Constipation in dogs can be due to lack of fibers in the diet, obstruction of GI tract due to ingestion of any objects , dehydration, ingestion of foreign material, hernias in the perineum, some bacterial infections and enlargement of prostate in male dogs. Take care of your dog's diet, remove underlying cause, use laxative for soapy water enema, don’t use over the counter enema, and visit a vet for differential diagnosis and proper treatment.
