    The name is probably derived from 'dubh linn' - the dark pool.
    It is part of the Parish of Killeilgh and was historically, part of the ancient terriory of the 'Tuath Clae'. This was part of the O'Brien lands, a distict sept of the O'Briens in that area.
    Tuath means family or clan or tribe and Clae /Glae is the name of the land.
    Doolin was historically a gaeltacht areas where Irish was spoken.
    Seamus Delargy came to the area in 1929/30 to record the very rich store of Clare folk music from the area.
    IDoolin was visited by many famous people including George Bernard Shaw, the Welsh writer Dylan Thomas, J.M Synge and Augustus John.
    O'Connors pub(once known as Shannons), dates back to 1832 and is famous for it's hospitality.
    Doolin has been described as 'a shrine' fr traditional Irish music and is made famous in the song the Cliffs of Doolin.
