What Is The Best Way Of Getting Into The UK Film Industry?

Answer Question

Getting a break in the British media in general, and the film and television industry in particular, is not very easy, as this is a competitive field. Talented individuals are available aplenty, but now-a-days it is the complete package of talent plus how effectively you can market yourself (by reading trade literature, gathering information about pre-production and production, keeping abreast of new developments in the business plans or production aspects and know what is happening in the field in the region where you live) plus how effectively you network with people on the social and business circuit (by recording contacts, following up with them, joining groups of fellow professionals, going to trade events, parties and festivals, asking fellow participants or trainers at film institutes for contact information, taking appointments with senior professionals, socialising after work, using your social contacts, doing a few favours and of course, keeping in touch with your contacts even when you are not looking for work) and then actually going about looking for work.

Take any job you can in the industry (ie runner), work hard at it and work your way up. Getting a foot in the door is key. Contacts are key.
