If marijuana, in its many forms, were to be legalized, the economy of a nation would actually benefit; the marijuana would then be subject to taxation; more money for the government. The economy would also benefit by having to pay fewer DEA agents and border patrol agents to keep marijuana from entering the USA. Regarding the environment, the cannabis plant is actually a weed; it is very easy to grow. If legalized, it would benefit the environment because its cultivation could occur out in the open rather than in the "backwoods" where fragile ecosystems may be destroyed. Legalizing marijuana would benefit both the economy and the environment. However, the serious health problems associated with marijuana use has kept it from being a legal drug EXCEPT for the drug called Marinol - it is used to quell nausea and reduce pressure on the eyes for glaucoma patient. Marinol has been processed to remove the "high."
