Equities are investments in which you take ownership of the company. This is distinguished from debt investments where you do not receive ownership, but rather the owners have an obligation to pay you regardless of how the business performs. In general, equities are considered to be more risky but have a higher reward for the investor, whereas debt is considered to be more stable but not have as much upside.
