What types can not be and why!?
I should have said that there are some types that are not generally recycled. Some of these are caps and tops that came off of the plastic container, shrink wrap plastic material, and some others. There are 7 types of plastic and they have a resin code for each, numbered 1 through 7. 1 - 3 are the most recycled plastics.

Plastic is a polymer, a substance made by way of a thermal chemical process that involves the bonding and formation of long chains of molecules (monomers) of carbon derived from petroleum based substances. Some kinds of plastic (thermoplastic) can be regenerated by heating while the thermoset kind of plastic cannot be recycled as the recycling process results in changes its properties.
Another feature of the recycling process is that most plastic items can be recycled only once; if the process is repeated then the chain like molecular structure breaks down giving rise to a number of environmentally harmful gases. Plastic items are more often than not marked by a specific number according to the substance used to manufacture the plastic; at present there is a series of numbers from 1 to 7 for this purpose out of which items marked 1 or 2 (mostly soda and water bottles) only are recyclable; often plastic is recycled in the form of fiber
