You can hold them in one week just to clean the cage..and in four weeks separate the boys with the girls..and never put ur daddy hamster at the cage when pregnant and giving birth.and for one month if u can't carry more litters..because it'll have more babies after giving birth..and at 4 week take the male babies to another cage.the girls can stay with their mother..

I suggest you don't hold them. They are still very connected to their mother. I know you feel temped to do it and think that it will be a great experience but you don't want to take that risk. You might want to consider not petting them AT ALL. Like one person already mentioned, the scent will stay there. Once my friend and I found a bird's nest under the cracks of her porch. So we went inside and told her parents about it but they said not to breathe on them or not go near them that much. So now we only see them about 2 times each week and hold our breathes when we try to see them. The mother won't eat them or anything but she will abandon them and let them die. It's like the mother bird has to have a child with perfect scent or something like that. That is what is my opinion.

Maybe but i say no. I have baby hamsters to. They are getting fur now and wondering all over the place! Me and my brother only pick them up if they run out of the nest because the babies run away from the mom so we try to help her and she dose not do any thing    she is a black bear hamster so i guess she is naturally nice. She still loves her babies and keeps them warm  and nurses them.

no don't hold them, you can only touch them when they stayed with there mother for 4 weeks after that you can touch them but you will have to remove them from there mother or the mother will get fed up and eat them, if you need to change the cage then get a spoon and try to put them on there (not with you hands) cages, but if you need more information then here's a tip, don't touch them or the smell on your hands will go all on there body and the mother will think that this is not her babies so she will eat them alive!
          thanks i hope i helped!
