Reaching Menopause?

I'm 39 years old going to be 40 in 2009, me and my fiacee are trying to conceive. May 19,2008 I went to see my obgy n and I took a blood test to see what wrong with me bc I've been trying for awhile, the result was that I'm working on my menopause and I need to re take the blood test again in 6 weeks. My mom had menopause at 50, what is that say for me?I'm still having my period is that means that I can't get pregnant at all .

As long as you are having a period you can conceive, because your ovaries are still being released. Because your mother went through hers at that age doesn't mean that you will, though in many families it does seem to be genetic, it isn't always the case.
I don't want to sound crass, or too forward, but you and your husband should be getting real busy here in the near future, especially if you are showing signs of premenopause. Hope this helps, good luck.

I would try an ovulation kit. You can then see if you're still ovulating. If you are, there is a chance you can get pregnant. It's a good sign that you're still having periods. You might ask your Dr. about taking a fertility medication like Clomid, or if you can afford it, maybe a couple of IVF cycles. The tests that the Dr. did were hormone level tests, to check your FSH level, etc. Don't get upset or stressed about the situation (I know that's tough), because sometimes that just makes it harder to conceive. I wish you and your husband luck, and hope that a child is in your near future.
