What Are The Outstanding Features Of Swakopmund In Namibia?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Swakopmund is a seaside resort on the Skeleton Coast of Namibia. Most visitors to Namibia make a point of stopping off here as it is an interesting mix of modern and quaint.

In common with most seaside towns the world over, Swakopmund has a host of modern amenities with which to keep its visitors happy. But as a bonus, the town vividly reflects its Germany heritage.

In the older parts of the town, you can be transported in an instant to a small town in Germany due to the colonial, baroque and and neo-classical styles of the 19th Century. It can be all too easy to forget for a moment that you are in Africa at all due to the Germanic atmosphere and continental feel of the place. Prime examples are the railway station, Lutheran Church, Atlas Flats, Woermann House and Hohenzollern House.

Though the town's heritage plays an important part, Swakopmund is a modern resort with more than its fair share of boutiques, shopping malls and art galleries.
