    In the UK, legally there is no upper age limit; the only requirement is that you are physically, mentally and emotionally able to cope with the demands of child-rearing (and have no criminal record). However, there are so few babies up for adoption that in practice, very few adoption agencies would consider a couple over 40, and some will not even consider a couple over 35. Priority tends to be given to younger people. It may be easier to find a slightly older child for adoption, though.
