One likely treatment is no treatment at all. In medical language it is called watchful waiting, and it is well-matched for men with a life expectancy of 10 year or less who have a low Gleason figure and whose cancer has not spread afar the prostate. In these types of cases, the cancer is budding so gradually, that mostly they won't die from it. More radical treatments in such cases such as surgery may be more unsafe than simply waiting. The candidate is given radiation treatment.
There is another way of treating prostate cancer i.e. a surgical cure called radical prostatectomy (RP), in which the prostate is fully removed. RP can have lasting side effects including impotence and incontinence.
