How Old Should A Kitten Be Before It Leaves Its Mother?

    asked 2 years ago

    Answers

Most kittens and puppies are able to be weened from their mothers at 6 weeks, though it is usually a good idea to wait until 8 weeks so that they can start to eat solid foods.

Eight weeks is the recommended time to ween kittens and puppies. Seventeen years ago, I got both of my cats when they were 7 weeks old. When I was recently looking for a kitten, the humane societies wanted the animals to be 10-12 weeks before they were adopted. They all seemed very surprised that my elderly cats were allowed to be adopted so young.
