stateless server processes each incoming request from any client without maintaining knowledge of any ongoing conversation between it and any client. any context needed for handling a request must come from the client within the request itself. a stateful server maintains knowledge of an ongoing conversation with the client without the client needing to send additional data to the server to establish the context of the current request.
