What Is An Example Of Bernard Marx Being Heroic?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Bernard would like to be heroic, and several times tries to be brave but loses his nerve. An example is in Chapter 15 when he wants to help John and Helmholtz while the Deltas are rioting, but when they are arrested and in the next  chapter he hears that he is to be sent to an island, he panics. Only after he has accepted his fate - in chapter 18 - does Bernard achieve a kind of heroism, as he quietly says goodbye to his friends, apologies for his cowardice and prepares to start a new life. Hope this helps.
