Olympe de Gouges was a political activist as well as a playwright. She became popular because of her feminist and abolitionist writings during the French revolution.
She was a great proponent of Democracy. She demanded through her writings that the French women be given the same rights as the French men. She also challenged the male authority and gender inequality. She asked for the right of divorce for women. She also asked for a democratic system of government.
She was finally executed in the year 1793 because of her outspoken stance on various issues.
