Which Route Across London Does The Northern Line On The Underground System Follow?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The Northern Line is a complex London Underground system which starts in Morden in South London and terminates in either Edgware or High Barnet in the north. However across central London, the Northern Line splits into two branches from Kennington until Euston. One of these is called the Charing Cross branch, the other is known as the City branch. Things are complicated further still from Euston to Camden Town, when there is a second split. One branch goes directly from Euston to Camden Town, whereas the other has a station at Mornington Crescent.

The Northern Line was originally two separate railways: the City and South London Railways opened in 1890 whereas the Charing Cross, Euston and Hampstead Railway began in 1907. The two railways united in several stages between the years of 1922 and 1926 and was known as the Northern Line from 1937.

The line covers 36 miles of train track and serves 50 stations.
