Yes, if we fail to do anything about the many endangered species of animals and plants, there is fair chance another specie of living organisms may be wiped off the face of Earth in the years to come.

Many species of plants and animals are endangered. Rafflesia (Southeast Asia) and Grass Fern among plants, and Giant Pandas (China), Mountain Gorilla (Africa) and numerous seabirds (Alaska) among animals have been rated to be on the verge of extinction.
The Elephant has also been recently added to the list of endangered species. Hunters used to kill it for its Ivory tusks. But because of the threat of extinction, Ivory has been internationally banned.

In Africa, Mountain Gorillas are still killed for their meat. The meat is normally made into Gorilla Stew, and the hands are used as Ashtrays.
Whale hunting is also a very famous activity. People hunt Whales for their carcasses, which are used in making 'luxury' food like 'Whale Sushi'.
An estimated 3,00,000 seabirds were killed in 1989 at Alaska due to an Oil spill.
All these and many other animals and plants are on the verge of extinction due to human activities. They can only be saved if we take certain measures to protect them.
