Tea Tree oil, or oil of melaleuca alternifolia, comes from an Australian plant. The oil is extracted by distilling the leaves, and the resulting liquid has many excellent medicinal uses.
Tea Tree oil is antiseptic, antifungal and antimicrobial, due to a high level of terpenoids. This makes it an excellent choice for topical skin problems such as acne, psoriasis, eczema, athlete's foot (or other fungal infections), and healing cuts, abrasions, and any other skin injury.
Although some people apply undiluted Tea Tree oil to their skin with good effects, others may wish to dilute the essential oil with a little jojoba or other carrier oil. The undiluted Tea Tree can have an overly drying effect on those with sensitive skin.
Never take Tea Tree oil internally. It is toxic if consumed, and can even have fatal effects on the central nervous system
