Yes, all living things need to maintain a balance in all respect of their life. All things if they can not keep the balance. They would be the victim of many diseases. You can judge this by observing the life and all living things around you. Consciously or unconsciously they maintain the balance not only in life but also in their eating, drinking, sleeping.

For example, consider the plants and how they are maintaining the balance in their life. Just observe it. Plants generate Oxygen in morning and stop it in the night. They've a specific time table and period of photosynthesis. They absorb a very balanced energy from the light of the sun.

Similarly consider other things like human beings, animals. Even an animal that does not have wisdom maintain the balance in his food. Have you ever noticed that when dogs, cows sit somewhere they first of all clean the place with their tails. So they are even keeping the balance in their personal hygiene. Similarly human beings also do that. We keep balance in our sleep, if we could not do this, we get ill. Similarly if you eat 1 cup of ice cream you will enjoy. But if you will eat 10 cups you'd lose the balance in your food and you may get food poisoning.
