The John Rylands Library is located in Manchester, England. It was started in the year 1899 and is famous for a collection of historic books and manuscripts.
In the year 1972 it was combined with the library of Victorian University of Manchester to create the John Rylands University Library of Manchester. Remarkably the John Rylands Library posses the oldest existing New Testament document, Rylands Library Paprus P52, the supposed St John Fragment.
The library was established by Mrs Enriqueta Augustina Rylands. She had started this library in memory of her late husband, John Rylands. In the year 1890 after buying a plot in Deansgate which is placed in the center of Manchester City Center, she later ordered for a custom-made plan from architect Sir, Basil Champneys for the Library.
