    Land Tax was introduced in the late C17. It was abolished in the mid-C20.

    It's value to Family historians is the names of proprietors of land in each Parish in English and Welsh counties.

    The first known date for the introduction of Land Tax dates from the Act of 1692.
    Information is as follows:-
    Names of copyholders and or proprietors, this information may contain names of lessees rather than landownes. Some may be omitted.
    Names of Occupiers . These are very incomplete, with many names not mentioned- especially labourers and occupants of cottages.
    Rentals  - this is not directly relevant to names as this section was often left blank.
    Descriptions and names of estates are mentioned, this is helpful for specific descriptions for mills, industrial buildings, shops and workshops. It is very rare that street names are mentioned.
    N.B it is usually, the name of male, heads of households who are listed.
