Where Did The Word Zoologist Come From?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

    zoology = study of animal life (zo = animal life) (ology = study, or study of)

    ist = person who

    …thus zoology + ist = person who studies animal life
    (the y in ology, of course, is dropped before adding ist, which gives you zoologist)

    Though, now it is almost always understood to refer to "wild" animal life, it originally referred to all animal life.
