The answer of your question is a big yes. They may not be different in shape or look but in fact they are different in their operation. I mean the cabin air filters are different than the combustion air filters. Their functions are totally different for example the cabin air filter is normally used to keep the air for the passenger area clean and moderate. On the other side the combustion air filters are used to protect the cylinders of the engine from getting the particulates of different type that can cause some harm to engine or they can cause the engine oil to be contaminated.

Old type of vehicles which uses carburetors or throttle body fuel injection these types of vehicles are one of the typical examples of using the combustion air filters these vehicles uses a cylindrical type of air filter. That air filter is normally has the diameter from 6 inches to 16 inches and they are normally high as compared to the other air filters.
So you must understand it that the combustion air filters are different from the cabin air filters. I hope now you've also understood the difference between both of them. Thank you very much for asking.
