Where Are The Himalayan Ranges?

    The Himalayas are the one of the longest mountain range in the world and stretch across six countries; India, Nepal, China, Bhutan, Pakistan and Afghanistan. Its range is about 2400 kilometres and start from Nanga Parbat to Namche Bawa. The width of the Himalayas varies from 250-300 km.
          
    The Himalayan ranges are made of three parallel ranges; the sub-Himalayan range (the Shivalik Hills), the Lower Himalayan Range and the Great Himalayas. The Shivalik range is made of erosion material and has elevation of 1200 metres. The elevation of Lower Himalayan range about 2000-5000 metres and the highest of all are Great Himalayas with an elevation of more than 6000 metres. This range is home to some of the highest peaks in the world including the highest in the world; Mount Everest.
           
    The word Himalaya came from Sanskrit meaning the abode of snow and many of the peaks signify the name.
