Is The Sun A Lower-mass Star Or A Higher-mass Star And Which Stage Is It In?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The Sun is a medium mass star. More massive stars exist in the Universe than our Sun, some are as much as 10 or 15 times more massive and dense than our Sun. It is in it's middle age. When the Solar System may have formed the Sun must have been of a white hue and it would progress in age, in it's final stage when it runs out of it's Hydrogen fuel it would start burning it's ashes (Helium atoms). Those atoms are combined under enormous temperatures and pressures to produce massive elements and fuel Sun's processes. As a result of that the Sun would start increasing in size and would become a bloated monster, eventually eating up Mercury and Venus as it expands in size. Eventually, it will cause all the oceans on Earth to evaporate and melt Earth's surface after which it would blow up leaving a dormant core, a white dwarf star behind which would be almost the size of Earth but many times more massive than it curently is, so much that a small football sized chunk would weigh as much as trillions of tons.
