Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Radar stands for Radio Detection and Ranging (Radar). It is useful for air and surface navigation military purposes as well as tracking satellites and space vehicles. Its is also used in air traffic control, weather observation and storm warnings.

Radar consists of a transmitter, a receiver and several indicating devices. The transmitter generates very high frequency electromagnetic waves capable of penetrating in to fog, haze, smoke and clouds. These waves are set out in any desired direction in narrow cone shaped beam with the help of concave antenna. The radar waves travel outward with the velocity of light and are reflected back when they strike a distant object, the reflected wave strikes radar antenna and amplified in the radar receiver. These amplified signals the time taken by knowing the wave velocity the distance of the object from the radar can be found.

    Most common Radar purpose.

    1. Detection and search radars
    2. Air Traffic Control and navigation
    3. Radars for biological research
    4. Weather-sensing Radar systems
    5. Missile guidance systems
    6. Battlefield and reconnaissance radar
    7. Space and range instrumentation radar systems
