What Delayed The Release Of Da Vinci Code In India?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The release of the controversial movie the Da Vinci Code was delayed in India due to protests by the Christian community. There were widespread protests by Christians who believed that the movie portrayed Christianity in a bad light. The minority community was especially agitated with the notion that Christ is supposedly married to Mary Magdalene and fathered a child with her. This premise has been taken directly from the bestselling book written by Dan Brown which bears the same name on which the feature film is based.

Finally the movie was released with no cuts but it had an A (Adults Only) certification along with a 15-second Disclaimer appended at the end which stated that the movie was utterly a work of fiction. The movie was ultimately delayed by a week and by then the grey market was teeming with pirated reproductions of the movie. Not only in India, but also elsewhere, there were bishops that called for the boycott of the movie.
