New Nose Piercing - Ridge Building On Outside - Why?

I had my nose pierced 6 weeks ago, up until about a week and a half ago the outside - around the stub was smooth, now I have a ridge building about 2/3rds of the way around the stud on the outside. I have had no problems prior, inside or outside of the pierced area. Any ideas how to loose the ridge?

I guess your nose piercing is getting an infection. The ridge formation is a sign of initial infection. You should a good antiseptic on it everyday. Keep it clean. Clean it with an alcohol swab many times a day. Also, try using a pure silver stud, silver prevents against any piercing infections.

I had the piercing done professionally with what I'm thinking is a surgical steel stud (looks like silver - so possibly could be silver?) and have wiped the inside & out twice a day with Bactine(went thru a whole bottle)....surprised all was good for the 1st 4 weeks....wondering if & when this heals - how long before the healing is complete - guess this will depend on when the "infection" actually heals?
Not going to use Bactine this time around - any word out there on Tree Tea Oil for disinfecting?

If it flakes off when you touch it it might just be crust which is just a normal part of healing. If its more like a blister this can sometimes happen with nose piercings when they've been irritated. Use a strong solution of half a teaspoon of rock salt in a cup of cooled boiled water twice a day and see how it goes. Good Luck!

BTW tea tree oil is very good for infected/irritated piercings but can sometimes be very drying so don't use too much. And please ignore all this talk about silver jewellery, stainless steel or titanium are by far the best to use in piercings fresh and healed.
