What's The Content Of Petrol?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Petrol is obtained at the end of a refining of crude oil which is done in a refinery. Petrol is made up mostly of hydrocarbons, which are molecules made of just hydrogen and carbon and they have between 5 and 12 carbon atoms. Other chemicals that are found in varying proportions include benzene and naphthalene. So basically it is a mixture of various hydrocarbons that we can sort into three categories, olefins, alkanes and naphthenes that are combined into various proportions by every refinery depending on who their cutomers are. Some also add Methylcyclopentadienyl manganese tricarbonyl or MMT, lead and ethanol.
