Can You Give The Exact Meaning Of "Flora And Fauna"?

Answer Question

2 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

The term flora and fauna refers to the diversity of plant (flora) and animal (fauna) life with respect to a particular region or country or even a particular age in the past. The term is also used in taxonomical treatises to describe the scientific classification of different species of plants and animals.

For example the statement that the flora and fauna of Australia is unique and distinct as compared to the rest of the world refers to the species of animals and birds like kangaroo, platypus, wombat, emu and plants like cycad palm and grass tree among others that are found nowhere else on Earth.

The term fauna is actually a broad term for mammals, birds, insects and reptiles among others; the term marine flora and fauna describes the plants and creatures existing in the oceans and seas.

Another use of the term as stated above is in reference to a certain age for example dinosaurs were a part of the fauna on Earth in the Mesozoic Era (250 million years to 65 million years).
