Is There Free Guaranteed Info To Potty Train A One Year Old Puppy?

Answer Question

There are as many ways to housebreak a dog as there are stars in the sky - none of them are guaranteed as each dog is different as are their owners. What ever method you decide to use though needs to be done CONSISTENTLY by you the owner and any other members of the household.

General rule of thumb is that puppies need to empty their bladders & bowels:

Upon waking up - so take them straight outside after they wake up in the morning or afternoon nap.
About 20 minutes after eating - take them outside.
After playing - take them straight outside.

Anytime you see them start to "assume the position" while indoors - scoop them up and take them outside to finish what they were about to start.

Don't expect them to go the moment you get them outside either. It might take a few moments... Let them sniff and what not. You might want to take them to one certain section of the yard and once they *go* make a big fuss over them with praise. That signals to them that they've pleased you and that they did a good thing.

Rubbing a dog's nose in it does NOT stop them nor teach them anything. Actually it may only make it worse or instill in their minds that they ought to *eat* it - whole 'nother topic that is hard to deal with and just ewwwwwwwwwww.

I forgot to mention that if you regulate when the puppy eats and how the puppy drinks - it will be easier to time when they have to *go*.
