What Are The Classifications Of Cloud?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Clouds are classified into 27 distinct groups. The observers give Latin terms to these clouds in order to describe their appearance. Moreover, with the help of the height of cloud base other classifications of clouds are recognized.

    For example:
High clouds have given a prefix Cirro. These clouds are composed of ice crystals with bases over 6,000 m or 20,000 feet. High-level clouds are normally white and thin in appearance, but can become visible in a wonderful group of colors when the sun is low (on the horizon).

Mid-level clouds have given a prefix Alto. These clouds are with the bases between 800 to 6,000 m or 6,000 and 20,000 feet. They are made up of water droplets or can be made up of ice crystals when temperature is lower down as required.

Low clouds have given a prefix Strato. These clouds are with the bases below 1,800 m or 6,000 feet. These low clouds are of typically made up of water drops.

Nimbo inserted at the end or at the beginning of a cloud name then it means that the cloud is creating rain.

Clouds are recognized usually because of the point where they are studied. From sea-level clouds might cover the top of mountain.
