What Country Owns The Canary Islands?

Answer Question

2 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

The Canary Islands are located at 28° 06'N, 15° 24'W, and consist of a chain of seven large islands and a few small ones in the Atlantic Ocean. The islands originated from volcanoes, and form an archipelago. Located off the north-west African coast (Morocco and the Western Sahara), the Canary Islands are a tourist's delight, with a pleasant climate and constant temperature throughout the year. The landscapes of the islands differ from one another.

However, the Canary Islands are not an independent entity by themselves. They are an autonomous community that is part of the Kingdom of Spain. The beginning of the Spanish conquest can be traced back to 1402 A.D., and today, it is ruled by the Canarian Coalition, after the first autonomous elections were held in 1983.
